However, the problem lies with added sugar and when the intake of that is high. Added sugar is what most food manufacturers use and deceive people in the name of sugar-free, to enhance texture, flavour and to extend shelf life.

Added sugar also raises blood pressure, increases chronic inflammation, and contributes to weight gain as it tricks your body to turn off its appetite-regulating system. These adverse effects of over-consumption of added sugar are now linked with increased risks of heart attack and stroke, diabetes, cavities, liver diseases. People are more likely to develop such chronic diseases if the effect is too far-reaching which is known as metabolic syndrome.
One of the primary agents that leads to metabolic syndrome is fructose. The most common type of fructose found in processed food is high-fructose corn syrup. It is merely a concentrated liquid form of added sugar and does not contain any nutritional value. Fructose leads to the production of triglycerides that raise the level of cholesterol in the body.
What Is The Way To Overcome This Vicious Cycle?
The only way to overcome being deceived and lead a healthy lifestyle is to become a conscious consumer. It is imperative that one knows to read and understand ingredient labels before investing in any food products. This is a great way to monitor the intake of added sugar. Look out for the names such as sugar syrups ( dextrose, glucose, lactose, maltose), brown sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, invert sugar, etc, and try to avoid or cut down their intake.
